A prospective employee has reached the last step of my hiring process, and I must confirm every aspect of their past before extending an offer. The assignment is to compile a thorough, fully documented background report that reaches as far back as records allow.
Scope of inquiry
• Criminal history – full nationwide and, where available, international records, including arrests, convictions, outstanding warrants, and any sealed or expunged items that may legally be reported.
• Employment history – position titles, dates, reasons for departure, performance or disciplinary notes, and verification of references.
• Education verification – degrees, certificates, official transcripts, attendance dates, and any academic sanctions.
• Social media presence – current and past public profiles on all platforms, with screenshots or archived links of relevant posts, photos, or interactions that could raise HR, reputational, or compliance concerns.
Deliverables
1. A written report (PDF) summarising findings under clear headings for each inquiry area.
2. Copies or screenshots of source documents, court dockets, or database hits to support every claim.
3. A concise executive summary highlighting any red-flag items.
4. A one-page timeline of key life events for quick reference.
Acceptance criteria
• No gaps in the chronology from first available record to present day.
• All dates and names cross-checked against at least two independent sources.
• Citations or database IDs included so the results can be re-verified if required.
• Final material delivered within the agreed deadline, encrypted for confidentiality.
