Project Description
I want to build a small, side-scrolling platformer in Godot and need a developer who already feels at home inside the engine. The goal is a simple yet polished 2D game that shows off fluid platforming mechanics and a bright, cartoon art style.
Here’s the vision
I’m picturing one concise level—or a short series of rooms—where the player can run, jump, wall-slide and double-jump past a handful of enemy types, grab pickups and reach a clear finish point. The scope is intentionally contained so we can focus on tight controls, clean code, and visuals that feel consistently “Saturday-morning-cartoon.”
What I’ll supply
• Style references and rough sketches for the hero, enemies and environment pieces
• Prompt feedback on mechanics, layout and visual direction
What I’d like you to handle
• Project set-up in Godot 4.x, with a tidy scene hierarchy and reusable scripts
• Implementation of responsive character movement and collision handling
• Creation or smart sourcing of placeholder cartoon sprites, tiles and simple VFX that match the reference look
• Level assembly with hazards, moving platforms, checkpoints and basic UI (title, pause, game-over)
• Exporting a Web build so I can share a playable link alongside the full project folder
Acceptance criteria
• Runs without errors in the current stable release of Godot 4
Smooth execution on mobile.
• Character movement feels tight and bug-free across keyboard and gamepad
• Art and audio place-holders visibly follow the provided cartoon style guide
• Project files are well-commented and logically organized so I can extend them later
If you have a previous Godot platformer (even a game-jam entry) that shows your chops, please include a link. Also let me know roughly how many hours or milestones you anticipate for a project of this size. Looking forward to collaborating!
