Project Description
I’m building a mobile app for the Qatari market that lets shoppers point their phone at a product’s barcode and instantly read a clear, accurate nutritional breakdown. Barcode scanning is the only input method I need for now; manual entry or photo recognition can stay on the wish-list for later phases.
Alongside calories, macros and key micronutrients, the screen should surface concise health tips—brief, evidence-based suggestions that help users interpret what they’re seeing and nudge them toward better choices. Where possible, I’d also like to show links to alternative products stocked locally that offer a healthier profile, so users can act on the advice in real time. and also to add alternative products with links where to find.
Core expectations
• Native or high-quality cross-platform build (Android + iOS)
• Fast barcode recognition tied to a reliable product database covering items sold in Qatar
• Dual-language interface: English first, Arabic switch
• Admin panel or simple CSV import so I can update product data and health-tip snippets myself
• Clean, modern UI that feels at home in GCC retail apps
Acceptance criteria
1. Scan speed under two seconds on mid-range devices.
2. Nutritional facts rendered correctly for at least 95% of a supplied test set.
3. Health tips appear contextually and do not exceed 140 characters each.
4. “Healthier alternative” links open to an in-app card or external URL without breaking navigation.
Please outline your proposed tech stack, any existing SDKs or databases you plan to leverage, and a clear timeline with milestone deliverables.
