Project Description
We are looking for an experienced technical website audit specialist to help investigate a major traffic drop after moving from an old version of our website to a new version.
This is not a backlink-building job. Please do not apply if your main approach is link packages, PBNs, mass directory submissions, automated content, or low-quality backlinks.
We need someone who understands website migrations, redirects, crawl behaviour, indexability, canonical tags, sitemap quality, Google Search Console, and large directory/marketplace websites.
The issue:
We recently switched from the old version of the website to a new platform. Since then, Google Search Console is showing a significant drop in clicks and impressions. We need to understand exactly what went wrong and what needs fixing.
Main tasks:
1. Migration audit
* Compare old URLs against new URLs
* Find missing redirects
* Find broken redirects
* Find redirect chains
* Check old high-traffic URLs
* Build an old URL to new URL redirect map
2. Google Search Console review
* Compare traffic before and after launch
* Identify which pages and queries lost impressions/clicks
* Review indexing issues
* Review crawl stats
* Review Google-selected canonicals
3. Technical website audit
* Check robots.txt
* Check sitemap.xml
* Check canonical tags
* Check meta robots tags
* Check accidental noindex issues
* Check duplicate pages
* Check soft 404s
* Check 404s
* Check internal linking
* Check crawl waste
4. Crawl/indexing investigation
We need someone to check whether Google is spending time on low-value URLs, API URLs, duplicate URLs, filter/search URLs, or other areas that are not helping the site.
5. Key landing page review
We need to check whether the new version has weakened important landing pages compared with the old version, including:
* titles
* H1s
* content
* FAQs
* internal links
* canonicals
* schema
* sitemap inclusion
* mobile rendering
6. Recovery action plan
We need a clear priority list showing:
* what is urgent
* what is causing the biggest traffic loss
* what developers need to fix
* which URLs need redirects
* which URLs need noindex
* which URLs should be removed from the sitemap
* which pages need improvement
Tools/skills required:
* Google Search Console
* Screaming Frog
* GA4
* Ahrefs / SEMrush preferred
* Website migration experience
* JavaScript website experience
* Next.js experience preferred
* Large directory/marketplace website experience preferred
Deliverables:
1. Full technical migration audit
2. Old URL to new URL redirect map
3. Crawl/indexing issue report
4. Sitemap/robots/canonical/noindex review
5. Priority recovery plan for developers
6. Optional temporary support while fixes are implemented
Please include examples of previous migration recovery or technical audit work.
Also tell me:
* how you would approach this
* what tools you would use
* how long the first audit would take
* your fixed cost or hourly rate
* your temporary weekly/monthly cost if we keep you involved during implementation
We are not looking for backlink packages. We need the technical foundations checked and fixed properly first.
