Project Description
I run a large tech-news site with several thousand articles currently powered by Contentteller (PHP/MySQL). I have already chosen and purchased a new WordPress theme; what I need now is a developer who can move every piece of existing content into WordPress while keeping the site live, the URLs intact, and the search traffic unaffected.
The job breaks down into three core pieces:
• Export the full article archive—including body text, images, authorship data, dates and categories—from the Contentteller MySQL database. Whether you script the export in Java, generate XML, or follow another reliable route is completely up to you; my only requirement is that the process is seamless and nothing is lost.
• Import that data into WordPress so it maps cleanly to the new theme’s post types, taxonomies and media library. I’m not certain how much visual tweaking the theme will need until we see real content in place, so I’ll rely on your recommendations for any smart, lightweight customisations that improve readability or layout without slowing the site.
• Post-migration clean-up: preserve every existing permalink, fix any broken links or missing images that appear, install and configure our preferred SEO plugin plus basic social-media sharing integration, and confirm that key metrics (indexing, structured data, sitemap, etc.) remain solid.
Deliverables
1. A fully functional WordPress site on my server running the new theme, populated with all historic articles and media.
2. URL structure and metadata identical to the current live site.
3. Working SEO plugin and social-media share buttons.
4. A brief hand-over document outlining the migration scripts/process so we can repeat or extend it later if needed.
Throughout the project I’ll be available for quick replie, and I’d like periodic check-ins on progress and any roadblocks. If you have successfully handled large-scale CMS migrations before and can keep downtime to a bare minimum, let’s talk.
