LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of the module students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an enhanced understanding of research philosophies as applied
to research within health and social care.
2. Critically evaluate research methodologies, ethics and governance in provision
of evidence-based care.
3. Critically analyse and appraise research using appropriate frameworks.
4. Critically analyse the appropriate use of evidence including data in its
application to inform person centred practice.
5. Demonstrate the ability to write concisely to the assessment brief.
You are required to critically appraise a published research article using an
appropriate appraisal tool. The chosen research should have a specific link to
nursing and/or social work practice and you should make this clear in your
rationale for its selection. Your analysis and evaluation of the research should
demonstrate attainment of each of the five Learning Outcome.

The summative assessment for this module will be in one part:
Part 1
Critical Appraisal of Published Research.
