Freelancer Project Brief Teaser / Key Art Poster — Seribu Kunang-Kunang di Manhattan Project Overview We are seeking a talented digital illustrator or poster artist to create a cinematic teaser key art poster for an upcoming Indonesian feature film, Seribu Kunang-Kunang di Manhattan (A Thousand Fireflies in Manhattan). The poster must feel like a premium international art house film — sophisticated, atmospheric, and emotionally resonant. About the Film Title: Seribu Kunang-Kunang di Manhattan Director: Razka Robby Ertanto (Summerland Films) Based on: A short story (cerpen) by Umar Kayam Genre: Romantic Drama Setting: Manhattan, New York City, 2022 Synopsis Marno, an undocumented Javanese worker in New York, drifts between kitchens, warehouses, and construction sites — invisible to the city that surrounds him. Jane is an aspiring actress chasing Broadway from audition to audition, working café shifts to survive. They meet by accident in the back room of a Hell's Kitchen bar, and what begins as a transactional exchange — a beer, a question about marriage contracts — slowly becomes something tender and fragile. Theirs is a love made of quiet moments: a park bench, a subway ride, the warmth of being truly seen. But the city that never sleeps has no patience for people without papers. As Marno is hunted by immigration officers and Jane remains tethered to ghosts of her own past, their connection — intimate, fractured, luminous — begins to unravel. Like fireflies seen from a high-rise window at night, their love is brief, flickering, and impossibly beautiful. Poster Concept (Art Direction) The visual concept is specific. Please read carefully. Background / Setting: A view looking out from a high-rise apartment or rooftop in Manhattan at night. The cityscape should feel like the New York of the 1970s–80s — dense, warm-toned, with layers of glowing office and building windows receding into the distance (see reference: a Park Avenue canyon at dusk with the old Pan Am Building visible). The mood is amber, sepia-warm, slightly cinematic and melancholic — not modern blue-cold. Foreground — The Two Characters (silhouette): Two figures in silhouette, backlit entirely by the city glow behind them. The light source is the Manhattan skyline — no artificial fill light on the figures. — The woman (Jane) is leaning against a railing (rooftop or high floor balcony edge), head tilted slightly back or upward, relaxed but present. Her body language is open, free — she's enjoying the conversation and the night air. Think: a woman in a moment of ease, not posed or performative. Long hair is ideal. — The man (Marno) is seen from behind — we never see his face. He is talking to her, perhaps slightly turned toward her. His posture is attentive, intimate but not romantic in an obvious way. This is a platonic warmth — two people who find comfort in each other's company. Mood: Intimate, quiet, cinematic. No embrace, no dramatic gesture. The energy is conversational — like a scene caught mid-breath. Typography / Text on Poster Main title (large, prominent): Seribu Kunang-Kunang di Manhattan Credit line (smaller, below title): Diangkat dari cerpen karya Umar Kayam Font style: elegant, serif or high-contrast editorial. Think classic film titles — not sans-serif modern. The text placement should feel intentional and cinematic, ideally at the lower third of the poster. Note: The source material is a short story (cerpen), not a novel — please use "cerpen" in the credit line, not "novel." Visual References Provided Ref 1 — Composition & Setting: Two silhouetted figures inside a high-rise luxury room overlooking a hazy Manhattan skyline. Warm amber tones. Use this as a compositional and tonal reference — but the figures in the final poster should be repositioned as described above (rooftop / railing, not interior). Ref 2 — Female Figure Pose: A woman leaning back against a rooftop railing, head tilted, city lights blazing behind her at night. Use this as a reference for the woman's body language and the energy of a modern night cityscape. Ref 3 — NYC Background Aesthetic: A vintage photograph of Park Avenue, New York, at dusk — warm lit office towers, the old Pan Am Building, layered amber glow. This is the exact mood and era of the city backdrop we want. Deliverables 1 × Final poster (portrait orientation, minimum A2 at 300dpi — approx. 4961 × 7016px) Layered source file (PSD or AI preferred) High-res JPEG/PNG export for digital use 1–2 rounds of revision included Style Keywords Cinematic silhouette Art house Warm amber / sepia New York at night Backlit figures Intimate / quiet Vintage NYC mood Editorial typography No CGI look What We Are NOT Looking For AI-generated imagery (please be upfront if your process uses AI compositing) Cold, blue-toned modern cityscapes Romantic / embracing poses between the two characters Overly commercial or Bollywood-style aesthetics Generic stock-photo collage work How to Apply Please include in your proposal: portfolio samples of movie poster / key art work, at least one example showing silhouette or atmospheric night scenes, and your estimated turnaround time. Milestone payment preferred.
